
| Our guest speaker on Nov. 21 was Elaine Smith, director of the New Port Richey Parks and Recreation Department. She presented an excellent slide show with views of the Recreation Center and various parks operated by the city, and answered questions. |

| Our guest speaker on Sept. 19 was Rob Lorei, co-founder of WMNF 88.5 fm, a listener-supported independent radio serving west central Florida, and the Managing Editor of Florida This Week on WEDU-TV. Mr. Lorei gave a brief history of non-commercial radio stations beginning with KPFA in Berkeley, California, which was created in 1949, and he spoke at length about the effects on society of the economic challenges now facing the newspaper industry and the decline in television journalism. |

| Our speaker on Feb. 28 was Dan Callaghan, the West Pasco Historical Society librarian. Mr. Callaghan spoke about Abraham Lincoln, using for much of his talk a letter that could have been written to Lincoln after his death. Callaghan is a former captain in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army Special Forces, a retired high school English teacher, and now a bookseller. Callaghan Books South is an Internet bookstore offering more than 40,900 out-of-print, used and rare books world-wide. Many of the books on display for Black History Month at our museum, books by and about African Americans, are from his inventory. |

| A special guest at the WPHS program on Feb. 28 was Alfred Cave, who has written an autobiography, Life Against All Odds. The book was published by Outskirts Press, Inc., of Denver. Major Cave is a resident of New Port Richey. He was the model for a print showing the famed Buffalo soldiers, a cavalry unit that brought in the last of the hostile Apache people. |
