| The dedication of the Queen of Peace Hall
in Sims Park in New Port Richey took place on Feb. 24, 2005.
The photo above shows the ribbon cutting by New Port Richey city officials (left to right): Councilman Bob Langford, Councilman Matthew McCaffery, Councilman Tom Finn, City Manager J. Scott Miller, Mayor Dan Tipton, Chuck Grey, and Deputy Mayor Ginny Miller. Mr. Grey was among those who spoke before the ribbon was cut. He said that he was an altar boy at the church, which was then located on Washington Street. Mayor Tipton said that he hoped the belfry of the church, which was blown down by a hurricane in 1921, might be replaced in the future. Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church was constructed in 1919. In June 2001 the historic building was moved to Sims Park and positioned near the West Pasco Historical Society museum. A history of the church is here. More pictures from the dedication are below. |
